2018
The owners of an early 20th century California bungalow were interested in a complete overhaul of their aging single story home. The site of the project is located in a traditional San Mateo California neighborhood. From the street, the challenge was to blend old and new without compromise to existing neighborhood fabric
A modern interpretation of context using materials and simplified geometric gable form influenced the exterior design. Metal surround frames capture window openings and replace traditional trim. Windows are strategically placed to take advantage of the large, mature trees throughout the property
Programs were redistributed with the addition of a second floor. Upstairs expands with private bedrooms, and a more contiguous and open first floor provides generous connection to the rear yard outside
