The new Seoul Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art was a submission for an international design competition

The proposal is situated on the grounds of an old military compound and hospital, off limits to public access for more than half a century. Additionally, being sited next to the Gyeongbokgung Palace, one of Seoul's historic landmarks, was both opportunity and constraint. The design problem was one of reintroduction in a significant location

Our proposal presented a new public ground whereby city and museum coalesce in an open public exchange. Galleries are elevated above a flexibly programmed court. Patrons are encouraged to meander through exhibits both inside and out as part of the historic neighborhood experience
