YTN TOWER
seoul south korea
2010
The competition to redesign a corporate headquarters for the YTN media corporation was pivotal for both company and the new urban context in which the project was conceived. YTN headquarters is one of several pilot projects for the new ‘digital media city’ in Seoul’s expanding western urban edge
The project evolved around public program void spaces within a common high-rise tower. ‘Voids’ displace what are typical service and elevator cores, forming new public zones within the tower. Light and air become standards in spaces usually fed entirely of artificial service. The void is programmed up the tower as public amenity accessible to all
Elevator cores are displaced to locations serving consolidated programs supporting the complex requirements of broadcasting and administrative functions
